Almost Half Of Michigan K-12 Students Eligible For Free Or Reduced Lunch! Reflecting the prolonged recession in Michigan, almost half of the public school students in the state in 2010 were eligible for free or reduced price lunch, according to the annual Kids Count in Michigan report. STATE NEWS

Legislative activity was extremely light this week.  House and Senate Appropriations Subcommitee continued their hearings on Governor Granholm's fiscal year 2011 budget proposal, but no action was taken on any of the bills.  The first signs of trouble emerged in the Senate as a vote to cancel a negotiated 3% raise for unionized state employees failed to achieve the two thirds needed to hald the raise.  read the entire report
