Last week more than 3,400 parents, children, and early childhood program advocates from all across Michigan gathered in Lansing for the fourth annual Star Power event at the state Capitol. The mission: meet with lawmakers, encourage support of early childhood investment, and celebrate early childhood initiatives. The message: Keep the success going by maintaining funding – for the good of everyone. Investment in early childhood is one of the most significant economic investments we can make in Michigan’s recovery. Michigan currently saves more than $1 billion annually from past investments just in pre-K education programs alone. The cost savings are real and dramatic. The long-term benefit is clear and dynamic. Lansing lawmakers have joined the bandwagon. Many are willing to step out and lead. The Star Power gathering should send them a clear signal that the people of Michigan will support them if they do. We are thankful to those parents and children who participated from Cass County.
